Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The road in Piplara Uttarpara area of Harishchandrapur 1 No. Block in Malda district has been in poor condition for approximately ten years. Due to lack of maintenance, the road surface has deteriorated, forming large potholes that accumulate water, effectively turning sections into waterlogged pits. This has created hazardous conditions for residents who use the road daily.
Residents depend on this road to access essential locations including the block office, police station, hospital, and college in Harishchandrapur Sadar. The road’s condition has made transportation difficult, especially for patients and pregnant women, increasing the risk of accidents. Recently, a toto overturned after hitting one of the water-filled potholes, resulting in serious injuries to a female passenger.
Local people claim they have repeatedly informed the Panchayat, block administration, and public representatives about the road condition, but no repair work has been undertaken so far. The local MLA and State Minister Tajmul Hossain is said to be aware of the problem, with locals mentioning that his family members also frequently use this road.
Political parties have raised concerns over the issue. The BJP alleges that the ruling party administration has neglected this area due to the presence of a BJP Panchayat member, accusing them of discriminatory treatment in terms of development work. The Trinamool minister has denied these accusations and assured that repairs will be done soon, stating that there is no political angle and the problem had not been brought to their attention earlier.
Due to ongoing delays in repair, residents have issued warnings that they will block the road and organize protests by surrounding the block office and police station if the road is not fixed immediately. The situation remains unresolved, with the community demanding urgent government intervention to restore safe access on this critical route.
